Hype:
Sand Sculptures Travemünde is a seasonal art exhibition that transforms tons of special sculpting sand into impressive works of art. The sculptures are created by professional sand artists from around the world and often depict figures, scenes, or stories connected to a central theme that changes annually.
The exhibition is held indoors in large halls near the harbor, which makes it accessible regardless of weather conditions. Visitors can walk through the displays at their own pace, observe the fine details of the sculptures, and learn about the techniques used to create and preserve them.
It is a popular attraction for families, tourists, and art lovers, and is often combined with a visit to Travemünde’s beach, promenade, or old town. Because it runs for several months, it fits well into both short trips and longer vacations along the Baltic Sea coast.

Our first stop and main reason for going to Travemünde was the Sand Sculpture Museum. We watched a movie about how the sand sculptures were made. They use internal wood frames to contain the soil pressures, then sculpt the outside sand. We were in awe of all the cool sculptures—they were circus-themed when we went. We also got a kick out of their sand collection display and found several samples from close to home.
