Story

Driving in London is not an experience I want to repeat anytime soon. Traffic is very busy, they drive on the opposite side of the road, the lanes are super narrow, and they have automatic speed cameras, so you have to be diligent about not speeding if you don’t want a ticket. 

We drove down to Hever Castle first. This castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII, and is famous for its gardens and historic interiors. 

The road there was about 6½ feet wide or even less for large stretches. The speed limit was 60 mph, but we never went above 30 because of all the blind turns. Tara in the passenger seat had white knuckles the whole time because she was inches from branches and trees on the side of the road, and she kept reminding me to give her more space. I only hit the curb two or three times, and I only stalled it once—which I think is impressive.

Hever Castle was a lot of fun. We started off with the hedge maze then went to the water maze. 

Some of the platforms and sprayers were broken, but the concept was fun, and Cooper especially loved it. It’s a bunch of concrete stepping stones in a pond, and some have pressure sensors that trigger fountains between two stones, blocking your way. You have to figure out how to get to the middle island without crossing the spraying fountains.

In the castle, they gave us audio guides, which everyone enjoyed. We did the whole tour.
