Frederiksberg Palace Gardens serves as one of Copenhagen’s most beloved urban parks, blending royal history with natural beauty. The gardens reflect changing landscape trends, transitioning from strict geometric design to a more natural and picturesque English garden style. This evolution gives the park a varied character with open lawns, wooded areas, and water features.
The gardens are freely accessible year-round and attract both locals and tourists seeking a peaceful escape from the city. Visitors commonly stroll along the canals, relax on grassy slopes, or enjoy views of Frederiksberg Palace positioned on Valby Hill. Seasonal changes strongly influence the park’s atmosphere, from spring blossoms to autumn foliage.
In addition to leisure, the gardens hold cultural and architectural interest, including historic pavilions and bridges. Their proximity to Copenhagen Zoo adds a unique element, as animals can sometimes be seen from within the park. Overall, Frederiksberg Palace Gardens functions as both a recreational space and a living piece of Denmark’s royal and landscape history.

Tuesday, August 5 - I worked an extra-long day since I was taking Wednesday through Friday off. The kids finished watching Percy Jackson. After lunch, they went to Frederiksborg Castle and the surrounding gardens and parks. They walked to the cistern but didn’t go inside because Madi didn’t want to. They had fun at a hedge maze and at the Frederiksborg playground.
