Hype:

Stevns Lighthouse, also known as Stevns Fyr, was constructed in 1877–1878 using local limestone and stands near the edge of the famous white chalk cliffs of Stevns Klint. It replaced an earlier lighthouse from 1818 and was positioned to improve maritime safety along a busy stretch of the Baltic Sea. The tower remains operational today and is an important symbol of Denmark’s maritime heritage.

The lighthouse is part of the broader Stevns Klint UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is internationally recognized for its visible geological layers that document the mass extinction event that occurred around 66 million years ago. Visitors to the lighthouse often come not only for the panoramic sea views, but also to explore the surrounding cliffs, coastal walking paths, and nearby historic sites such as Højerup Old Church.

In addition to the tower itself, the area includes former lighthouse keeper buildings that now host exhibitions about local history, nature, and geology. The site is popular with tourists, hikers, and photographers, especially during the warmer months when weather conditions are more favorable and access to outdoor attractions is easier.

Our next stop was at a lighthouse. We didn’t want to pay for parking or go up the lighthouse, so we just took pictures from the outside.
