Hype:

Amalienborg was constructed in the 18th century and became the royal residence after a fire destroyed the original royal palace at Christiansborg. Each of the four palaces was originally built for noble families, but they were later acquired by the monarchy and now serve different royal functions. The central square is dominated by an equestrian statue of King Frederik V.

Visitors can watch the daily changing of the Royal Guard, which begins at Rosenborg Castle and ends at Amalienborg at noon. One of the palaces houses the Amalienborg Museum, where guests can explore royal apartments, artifacts, and exhibitions about the Danish monarchy’s history and traditions.

Located near the waterfront and close to landmarks such as Frederik’s Church (the Marble Church) and Nyhavn, Amalienborg is both a working royal complex and a major cultural attraction. The open square and surrounding streets make it an important focal point for sightseeing and understanding Denmark’s royal heritage.

Story

Then we went to Amalienborg Palace. 

We toured the one building that was open. It was super crowded inside because there were a bunch of people from a tour boat there and also because everyone was trying to find something indoors to do to get away from the rain. 

We listened to the audio guide and had a fun time with it. 

The kids were quite tired and wet and a little cold, but they put up with it because at least it was indoors.
