St. Mary’s Cathedral (Hildesheim Cathedral) is the medieval Roman Catholic cathedral in the city center of Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, Germany, serving as the seat of the Diocese of Hildesheim and officially dedicated as the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary. It was built in the Romanesque style between 1010 and 1020 with a characteristic symmetrical plan and two apses of Ottonian architecture. The cathedral houses famous medieval art and treasures such as the Bernward Doors, the Bernward Column, and notable Romanesque chandeliers (Hezilo and Azelin). Along with St. Michael’s Church, it has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1985 because of its outstanding Romanesque architecture and artistic significance.

Story

As rain began to fall, we first took shelter under a tree, then sprinted to a bakery as the downpour intensified. The storm overwhelmed a drain outside, flooding the bakery floor with leaves and debris. They had water and leaves and junk everywhere; it was quite the mess.

We bought a couple of pastries. Then when the rain slowed down a bit, we set off for a third church in the area, St. Mary's Cathedral. 

Navigating in the rain was tricky, and we ended up circling the entire building before finding the entrance, just 20 feet from where we started. 

The museum was quite fun. 

This church's claim to fame was a 1,000-year-old rose bush. 

Inside, guards kept a particularly close watch on Cooper with the diligence of a secret service agent, warning him when his toe tapped a display base.
