Hype:

Charlottenburg Palace was originally built at the end of the 17th century as a summer residence for Sophie Charlotte, the first Queen of Prussia, and later expanded into a vast and ornate complex by successive Prussian kings. Its architecture reflects Baroque and Rococo styles, showcasing the wealth and power of the Prussian monarchy during its height.

Inside the palace, visitors can explore richly decorated state rooms, gilded halls, royal apartments, and extensive collections of art, porcelain, and decorative objects. Highlights include the lavish Golden Gallery and exhibitions that illustrate the lifestyle and political influence of Prussia’s rulers.

Surrounding the palace are expansive formal gardens inspired by French design, along with landscaped park areas added in later periods. Story

We changed into street clothes in the church bathroom and took a bus to Charlottenburg Palace. The palace was heavily bombed in World War II and reconstructed; the old and the new wings are both on show. We ate lunch on the benches outside, toured the old palace and the new palace sections, walked the gardens, and visited the mausoleum. 

We missed the pavilion tour by a couple of minutes, so Savannah and I took the next available guided tour while the others relaxed on the grass. We played cards while waiting.
