Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843 and is one of the oldest operating amusement parks in the world, inspiring generations of visitors with its unique mix of amusement rides, theaters, restaurants, and lush gardens. Rather than focusing only on thrill rides, Tivoli emphasizes atmosphere, charm, and cultural experiences, making it appealing to families, couples, and solo travelers alike.
The park features a wide variety of attractions, from vintage wooden roller coasters to modern thrill rides, alongside concerts, ballet performances, and pantomime shows. Tivoli is also renowned for its food scene, offering everything from traditional Danish cuisine to international fine dining, all set within architecturally distinctive surroundings.
Seasonality plays a major role in Tivoli’s appeal, as the park transforms throughout the year with themed decorations for summer, Halloween, and Christmas. Each season brings different events, lighting displays, and entertainment, making repeat visits feel fresh and giving visitors a reason to return at different times of the year.
Tuesday, July 29 – We slept in until 8:00 and 9:00. We made rolls for breakfast. It's a fun traditional meal here and we're embracing it. We walked downtown, talking about chemistry on the way. We got to Tivoli by 11:00, right as they were opening.
We went straight to the back to the roller coaster with the biggest line and got on that one pretty quickly. Then we went to the fish feeding and had lunch outside the aquarium.
We rode several more rides. I was supposed to be back to the house by 3:00 so I could work, but that last roller coaster we got in line for ended up having a lot longer wait than expected, so I had to push my meeting back. Cooper didn't want to stay late, so he went back to the apartment with me.
Tara and the girls stayed at Tivoli until 9:00. They rode all the big rides and watched a pantomime show, then stopped for dinner. Unfortunately, all the fast food was $25 per person, so they just ate snacks and waited until they got home to eat dinner. They were pretty worn out by the time they got home.
